Overview
Ashitaka, a prince of the disappearing Emishi people, is cursed by a demonized boar god and must journey to the west to find a cure. Along the way, he encounters San, a young human woman fighting to protect the forest, and Lady Eboshi, who is trying to destroy it. Ashitaka must find a way to bring balance to this conflict.

Viewing Notes
New 4K looks amazing on the IMAX screen. Wasn’t gonna see this big again but so many ppl were raving about it that it convinced me to go see it. Probably the best it’s ever looked but I did see it in 35mm on the biggest screen at McClurg Court back when it opened in Chicago. That was rather amazing.
I love that at its core it’s a “man’s conquest over nature versus nature itself” yet all this shit is happening with the demons and Deer God and the forest sprites and animal factions plus the samurai army and the villagers. Crazy how it all comes together.
I really like San and Ashitaka together. They make a great couple. I wouldn’t mind a feel good sequel where he returns to visit her and wolves and they just go on an adventure.
lol all my viewings have been in theater. Twice on 35mm and twice digital. Pretty sure I watched it once at home on dvd when Matt and I got that bootleg set from eBay. Would’ve been early ‘00s.
