Neat little crime thriller with a premise I really like: bad guys versus bad guys. This movie has low ratings across the board that I’m guessing is more to do w/the acting and low budget feel of the movie. I’m okay with all of that and I esp. like this period of Bai Ling’s career when she acted and was offered more interesting roles. Michael Madsen is on point as usual chewing the scenes. Furlong is def the weak spot and because he’s the fulcrum on which the entire movie rests, it doesn’t help.
The thing that was most distracting and took me out the movie was all the European actors used in this small town, heist gone wrong, crime flick set in Texas. Not saying it couldn’t be likely but the Austrian cop, Romanian cop, and reporter from Turkey, etc. I honestly thought this was shot and produced in Romania or somewhere like that. Like why would the local news reporter have this Turkish accent? Weird choices they should’ve addressed.
Not that this is original but I’d like to see this same premise with bigger, better actors on a larger budget. Maybe I have seen that movie and just forgotten.
