I dunno why I haven’t viewed this sooner but it was readily available on Prime, albeit a very shitty transfer (I have it on DVD but wasn’t up for searching for it). JDB is disheveled and paunchy, the running joke is that he’s always on the sauce but I think that was IRL as well. He was going through a rough patch and Greydon was throwing him a bone. Greydon told me a few stories about JDB but I’ve forgotten them and I hadn’t seen this movie at the time. Wish I had a recording of Greydon sharing those stories.
The spoof aspect of this is okay with a few humorous bits but the real attraction is this cast. Besides JDB, there’s genre staple character actors George Kennedy (in a skeevy role) and Charles Napier. Babyface Andrew Dice Clay is one of the high school jocks. Love seeing Elizabeth Daily, and Julia Duffy is the “lead” or final girl, I suppose. It’s a dumb movie but there are so many references to other films it’s nuts. Crazy amount.
I think this got a BD treatment from VinSyn. I’d love to own a nice version of this.
