A bravado period action film set at the end of Japan’s feudal era in which a group of unemployed samurai are enlisted to bring down a sadistic lord and prevent him from ascending to the throne and plunging the country into a war-torn future.

Ashamed that I haven’t revisited this until now.
A masterclass in filmmaking by Takashi Miike.
Entire cast is excellent. One of Koji Yakusho‘s best performances, which is saying a lot.
This is a top 3 Miike.
Would love to see the longer original cut of the film. Arrow should release that with a nice box of extras.
