A loose take on Romeo & Juliet, two opposing families have children who want to be with someone from the other family. But the heads of the Wu Tang family hate the Shaolin boys. As noted in the description, they come together to battle some fierce bandits, easily the best setpiece in the movie. All the on-location filming is great, very scenic and beautiful.
Jet Li is top billed but not really in this that much. It’s a combined effort but he may have been the biggest young star at the time. I like his love interest portrayed by Huang Qiuyan, who he married IRL then later divorced. She is terrific in this. This would make for a nice upgraded release by 88 or Eureka.
I own an old dvd* that was a cheapie budget buy. Viewed on Prime bc it probably looks better (never watched the dvd). Dubbed but kinda works for the goofiness of the story.
*I found DVD a few hours after watching this! I am going to fire it up to see how it compares in PQ and audio.
