Viewing Notes

This movie scared me so much as a kid. I think it’s because there’s so much kid trauma and death.

The piranha sorta fell into that cryptid bucket, a creature with an enormous reputation based on very loose facts, adjacent to the Bermuda Triangle and UFOs. They were always a popular topic on the playground, “they can devour a human to the bone in seven seconds” or some shit.

This movie was perfectly tuned to dial into that fear.

Fun revisiting now and seeing how Joe Dante it is with sprinkles of humor and the child violence. Ofc hearing Joe Bob talk about the movie was great.
