Roy Ward Baker noted that Peter Cushing was catatonic on set, still grieving the death of his wife. But you wouldn’t know it from watching this. Consummate pro putting in the work and taking this ridiculous story seriously. Christopher Lee tried to talk him out of accepting the part but Cushing wanted the distraction of work. Kind of amazing he still had his excellent Tarkin in the tank a few years later.
Poor David Chiang gets the worst here but he’s also giving the effort. I’d love to watch a feature length documentary about the making of this movie, especially given how troubled the production was.
