Viewing Notes

Mostly melodrama that blows up in the third act with some bonkers action setpieces. Yet needed more charm from both the big leads. I dunno if they had vanity projects back then but this feels like one.

The melodrama is crafted well enough but the action scenes— particularly the restaurant or whatever it is— is filmed in mostly tight shots and poorly lit. Had to watch it twice to follow what is happening.

Definitely a movie that deserves a restoration and nice release. The overview only touches on the first 10 minutes or so of the movie. A lot happens that includes opium smuggling and organized crime.

Added four more actors to TMDb but there’s a lot more but they aren’t listed in HKMDB, sadly. All the young children are terrific.
