RIP Graham Greene
June 22, 1952 — September 1, 2025
When your movie calls for a token Native American you can count on Canadian actor Graham Greene. Was hoping he wasn’t typecast when I selected this and yet here he is as the homeless native telling folklore about the La Brea Tar Pits for a few coins.
Looking past that, this is a decent creature feature with a cool monster and solid cast. Nice to see Shepis in a good role that sticks around during most of the movie.
My only gripe is the framing device used throughout the movie. Like how Nobody 1/2 both start but it here it keeps cutting to that, the lead character recalling it was a mistake or whatever. Cut all that out and let the story flow in its own. It’s a crutch here that weakens the movie.
Another movie I’d like to edit it to make a tighter cut where the tension isn’t lost. Because I do like the movie and the monster and practical FX.
I don’t often watch direct on Tubi very much these days but decided I would for this and wow did they up the ad disruptions. Very frequent and poorly timed. Frustrating experience did not help my viewing. Will stick to the short form cartoons on my phone.
