It finally happened! I had the entire IMAX theater at AMC Westminster Promenade to myself. It was one of the reasons I selected this showtime; no other seats had been sold about an hour before the screening. Really odd this movie was given two showtimes in IMAX when they didn’t even give Kill Bill an IMAX screen and it was selling out.
This is absolutely the type of film that usually gets the smaller screen at Promenade.
Another reason I went was that this dingdong critic I follow gave this a shitty review. I didn’t read it but I enjoy Hosoda’s other films and this one looked like a departure from his usual stuff. It is! He takes a sword and sorcery approach to a revenge story set in the Otherworld, a limbo purgatory world where the dead haven’t fully crossed over.
I like it lots for all those reasons even if the core revenge plot is rote. I’m a big sucker for two individuals falling for each other that otherwise wouldn’t in any normal situation.
