An ambitious anthology film featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational ABC books, the film comprises 26 individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death.

12th feature of FF2012, 4th “film” of Day 3. I say “film” because it’s really just a collection of short films covering all the letters of the alphabet. And it’s an endurance test. We didn’t get the cut that was shown at TIFF; we were presented a slightly longer cut. Not sure it would’ve made much difference because only half of the 26 horror shorts worked for me. Maybe less. It becomes more painful when a bad short is shown (“G” and “W” both come to mind). Some truly great shorts sandwiched between lackluster outings by some excellent directors. Wanted to see more boundary pushing material than stuff we’ve seen before. Look forward to seeing again at home when it’s easier to digest in chunks. Xavier Gens and Jason Eisener were a couple of favorites.
