Overview
Freddie, a volatile, heavy-drinking veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, finds some semblance of a family when he stumbles onto the ship of Lancaster Dodd, the charismatic leader of a new “religion” he forms after World War II.

Viewing Notes
Finally got out to the theater to view The Master. It’s one of the those films that’s nearly impossible to summarize the emotions and reactions after viewing other than to say that it’s something to be seen. Joaquin Phoenix embodies Freddie Quell. I love when actors are so good you forget the actor and believe in the character. This is a movie full of those kinds of performances. I really hope to see this in 70mm someday. Moving and thought provoking and yet so different from PTA’s previous work.
