Viewing Notes

When I first saw BATMAN FOREVER, I liked it. As stupid as it was in some places, thought 15-year old me, at least it had some good stuff like Jim Carrey. Oh my. I was so wrong.

Seventeen years later, I’m appalled at how bad it is. It’s no BATMAN & ROBIN, but it’s still stridently bad. Where I used to like Carrey, now I just find him grating and shrill, guilty of being infected with Joel Schumacher’s idiocratic infection. Add Tommy Lee Jones as the worst Two Face ever, a cardboard cutout of Nicole Kidman, and Chris O’Donnell…well doing that loud-shouty, not subtle Chris O’Donnell thing, and I just want to walk straight up to Schumacher and shake my head very slowly. And then punch him in the taint.

Rating: 1 / 5 Bat-asses

P.S. If you need an example of how stupid this movie is, notice that whenever there’s an “intruder alert” in the Batcave, access is opened to all computers and weapons, all doors are unlocked, and the Batmobile rises to the surface, ready to drive away. Joel Schumacher should go be the head of security for Kim Kardashian.
