Viewing Notes

There are two Dicks, a damsel and a whole lot of exposition going on here.

CREATURE is a B-movie monster classic and checks off all the same beats, for instance, that PIRAHNA 3D did last year (though to a much smaller degree): distressed dames in dinky duds, strapping men doing stupid things, a memorable minor character, and a murdering monster. Frankly, you can’t take it too seriously or expect to get too much from it.

However, I do appreciate that the writers tried to blend evolution and the Bible for the exposition, which must have been a bit controversial at the time and they could’ve played up the flirting between Kay and Mark to cause more tension. There’s not much to write home about with the directing, as its all fairly standard stuff for the genre, but I have to applaud the underwater shots that must have been quite astounding for the time.
