Curious if the new blu-ray from that set has the same 16:9 presentation as my UniMonster collection. My DVD Legacy Collection has the original 1.33:1 but not the blu from the coffin boxset I got later.

I was curious about this and did a little googling and found this: http://www.3dfilmarchive.com/an-in-depth-look-at-creature-from-the-black-lagoon-1.

It appears that while it was often shown in 1.37:1 ratio it was shot and intended to be screened in 1.85:1 ratio, which is what’s on this set. So I believe it’s in its correct aspect ratio here.

I have to say it looked fantastic, especially the underwater scenes.

Huh that’s some fascinating history on the film. I’ve seen it twice in 3D on the big screen but now I’m curious as to what the aspect ration was. I’d like to do my own side by side comparison between the releases I own to see how they look next to each other. I’ve seen the 1.37:1 version so many times I just figured the 1:85:1 on the blu was a cropped version. Good stuff to know and I agree that the PQ on the blu looks amazing.

Also, TCM lists the correct aspect ratio as 1.75:1. And IMDB lists three aspect ratios for it:

1.37:1 - Negative ratio
1.85:1 - Blu-ray release
2.00:1 - Intended ratio

So who knows?
