Viewing Notes

Inagaki’s SAMURAI trilogy has been a huge missing piece in my movie-going education. Well, no more.

Part I is a nice introduction to Musashi and his journey. Toshiro Mifune is perfect in this role. Although he’s more closely linked with Kurosawa, Mifune actually made more films with Inagaki.  Mifune has to be one of the great film actors of all time.  The sheer number of classic films he’s starred in is absolutely amazing.

So funny bc I was looking at Kurosawa’s limited selection at Criterion and then saw your log for these films so I added to my wishlist. I meant to get this on the last flash sale but forgot. I really enjoy these movies a lot.
