Caleb, a 24 year old coder at the world’s largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private mountain retreat belonging to Nathan, the reclusive CEO of the company. But when Caleb arrives at the remote location he finds that he will have to participate in a strange and fascinating experiment in which he must interact with the world’s first true artificial intelligence, housed in the body of a beautiful robot girl. This is what I think of when I think of robotic sci-fi or Isaac Asimov. It hits all sorts of points I,Robot tried to and failed because it was a big action spectacle. Oscar Isaac as Natahn is fantastic, but what really makes this film work is Alicia Vikander and her portrayal as Ava and the chemistry that she has with Caleb played by Domhnall Gleeson. The dialogue and pacing is great and I loved how they used the music here. It’s really hard for me to believe they filmed this over just six weeks. Not only is this a great film, but it’s an amazing piece of sci-fi.
