Viewing Notes

An astonishingly excellent piece of filmmaking, though difficult to watch and very disturbing. While the cast, including Michael Fassbender, turn in great performances, it’s really McQueen’s direction and DP Sean Bobbitt’s sparse camera work that are the stars here.

The imagery is so powerful that long static shots heighten the tension and apprehension, mostly with no music. Unbelievably powerful.
