Viewing Notes

Caught a showing of this right after work in one of the smaller rooms at Century Boulder with a mostly female teen audience, which kinda makes sense I guess.

Not Sofia Coppola’s best film by far, it felt pretty flat. I liked the premise but there were opportunities to explore the characters more, which probably would have helped to strengthen the theme. Instead Coppola chose to make the movie itself fairly vapid and substanceless. It really mocks itself in many ways.

Even though Emma Watson gives a great performance, I wasn’t happy with the movie switching focus to her character for the last quarter of the film. It felt out of place and the two main characters who drove most of the film were left with no resolution.

Worth seeing, but I’d recommend waiting for it to hit DVD.
