Kind of an odd take on the slasher movie, wherein the central characters are offed one-by-one. Unfortunately Aftershock doesn’t do much to get you invested in the characters you’re supposed to care about and then very offhandedly does some pretty nasty stuff to each of them. Only you don’t care because the men are pigs and the women are one-dimensional sex objects (except for one, who’s cast as the prude with a sordid past).
This is violence for violence sake, and while amusing at times, it’s mostly hateful and petty.
Sidenote: Aftershock played at Stanley Film Festival with Eli Roth in attendance. I didn’t attend the screening (thankfully it turns out) but did meet Roth by happenstance on the front porch of the Stanley. Incredibly nice, down-to-earth gent.
