Hands down my favorite film of the festival, this is a movie made for me! Written and directed by the same people who did the ‘ABCs of Death’ segment “O is for Orgasm”, Tears is a bizarre, richly textured thriller that uses color, sound and editing to subvert the film process in a repetitive way that isn’t actually repetitive at all. Reminiscent of works of literature by Burroughs and Ballard. I would love to see them tackle a William S. Burroughs novel at some point.
Definitely not for everyone, but for me this hit all the right notes. Speaking of notes, the score is also excellent, featuring pieces by Ennio Morricone among others. Just an amazing work of art.
