Viewing Notes

A great low key action movie in the vein of ‘70s genre films. Very well shot, the camera often holds a take on an action scene longer than you might anticipate, showing the real stunt work being done instead of editing around it like most movies do these days. Carano is definitely a badass. She’s obviously quite fit, and certainly good looking, though she doesn’t conform to Hollywood’s typical body image for female stars, action or otherwise. The supporting cast, ENTIRELY male, is excellent, with particularly good turns by Ewan McGregor and Channing Tatum (I know, right?).

A great supporting cast, a truly badass female action star who actually knows her action, and an excellent score and cinematography make this movie easy to like.

Feels like a minor Soderbergh riff, but even his minor riffs are pretty damn cool.

Probably not the movie a lot of moviegoers were expecting to see, Haywire is a throwback to the ‘70s era of action/thriller movies. More cynical, not as glamorous, grittier, and better filmed than today’s typically superfluous fluff.
