A return to yakuza form for Kitano as both a director and actor. Outrage is fairly complex, with a tangled plot, but the intricacies pay off in the end. The score is spare, and perfectly suited to the sparse camerawork and contrasting shots. When there is violence, and there is plenty of it, it’s pretty brutal violence. I really enjoyed the film, though it took a bit of time to really get into it.
