Renowned oceanographer Steve Zissou has sworn vengeance upon the rare shark that devoured a member of his crew. In addition to his regular team, he is joined on his boat by Ned, a man who believes Zissou to be his father, and Jane, a journalist pregnant by a married man. They travel the sea, all too often running into pirates and, perhaps more traumatically, various figures from Zissou’s past, including his estranged wife, Eleanor.

While not as laugh-out-loud funny (though it certainly has some of that too), I think Life Aquatic is near the top of my list for Wes Anderson films, edging out Royal Tenenbaums. It’s really hard to beat Bill Murray who is just fantastic in this. I also loved the soundtrack.

Also near the top for me too. Odd it’s considered one of his “lesser” films because it works for me so well. Maybe because it’s more nuanced and subtle with the humor. Probably also with Murray as the main the focus as well. The score definitely helps!
