Viewing Notes

I discovered this was for rent on Amazon Instant Video for $6.99 along with some other movies I’ve been wanting to watch (such as Honeymoon and Willow Creek). After watching a couple of previews on Hulu Plus, Gavin picked this one so off we went.

For a movie that could have easily trotted out the same conventions for the type of story it is, The Canal manages to avoid doing that and create some pretty creepy moments along the way. I really liked how this movie never went where you thought it was going to go, mostly due to the fact that they focus on the particular story they’re trying to tell rather than the genre within which they’re working.

I especially liked the female characters in this, even though all three of them were supporting roles. The nanny was particularly convincing in her sheer terror and lack of understanding of what was going on, which did a lot to add to the story.
