Tonia and I finally rented this from Redbox and we enjoyed it quite a bit. Perhaps not as funny as I was thinking it was going to be, but only because it really does have a darker underside than all the trailers would have you believe. While it does play well as a black comedy, I get the feeling that this is all closer to the truth for any number of murdering psychopaths out there with severe mental health issues.
You have to pay attention but there is some social commentary too, specifically having to do with the mental health field. Jackie Weaver does a nice little turn as a psychologist here.
The talking animals and singing/dancing numbers add some great comedy to the affair.
