The first time I watched this as part of the Hitchcock film class through TCM and Ball State, I streamed it from YouTube and it was less than ideal. When I started this three decades film history project through silent films I knew I wanted to revisit this film in the context of other films of the era. Because of that I decided to pick up the Criterion Blu-ray so I could enjoy it at the best quality possible.
Happy to say it didn’t disappoint. It feels more inventive in the context of other movies from the time as well, using allegory and creative camera angles to build tension and foreshadow events.
