Overview

A semi-biographical account of Yip Man, the first martial arts master to teach the Chinese martial art of Wing Chun. The film focuses on events surrounding Ip that took place in the city of Foshan between the 1930s to 1940s during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Directed by Wilson Yip, the film stars Donnie Yen in the lead role, and features fight choreography by Sammo Hung.

Viewing Notes

For the final martial arts film of the evening I decided to revisit IP MAN in preparation for revisiting IP MAN 2 again and watching IP MAN 3 for the first time. I recently found IP MAN and IP MAN 3 used so now I actually own all three.

Still a great film. It’s always fun to watch Donnie Yen and this is perhaps his best role. Excited for IP MAN 4 coming out this year.
