This film was obviously a huge influence on CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON as well as Taiwanese film in general. The cinematography is gorgeous. I can’t think of anyone else doing this kind of contemplative work in China/Hong Kong/Taiwan during this time period.
