Viewing Notes

A fun way to end the fest. Perhaps not all I wanted but pretty damn fun anyway! Siege movies are really about a sense of place and making that place smaller as the protagonists are forced back, space by space. Not sure Begos understands that in this homage to both ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.

Regardless, the cast, massive amounts of fun gore and practical FX, and some witty dialogue make this a great midnight movie. Nowhere near what Begos achieves with BLISS, but he’s definitely honing his skills as a director and I expect he’ll continue to get better.

After the screening and Q&A with Joe and Josh, we all shared a free shot of whiskey to celebrate Begos’ birthday.

You echo my sentiments perfectly. Enjoyable for a few reasons including that cast but that sense of space/place (or lack of) and floating tension threw me off. Best seen with a crowd for sure.
