This is heads above BATTLE CREEK BRAWL (aka THE BIG BRAWL) that came out the same year. Chan’s first movie as a director for Golden Harvest. Great to see Yuen Biao in this and the lovely Lily Li, though I wish she’d been used more in this because her brief action scene is great. I also love the scene later on where Chan mimics her moves from the previous fight against someone else.
The action is definitely more old-school ‘70s Peking Opera style but blended with Chan’s acrobatic physical comedy, as opposed to the more fluid action in the movies he’d become famous for shortly after this.
The dragon festival action choreography in the opening scene is worth the price of admission alone!
