I’d been saving this new release from Error 4444 specifically for a movie night. This is another in a series of Hong Kong films I’ve watched this year that serves up some brutal treatment of innocent characters. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that since it’s such an alien thing in American cinema. It’s always a bit of a gut punch when it happens. The action revs up in the final third of the film with some absolutely insane stunt work that has to be seen to be believed! Also not something you’d ever see in an American film.
While I assume Error 4444 did the best they could with the materials they had, the quality of this release is subpar. the Blu-ray suffers from some pretty consistent judder and, at times, softness, with various scratches and other imperfections showing up off and on throughout. The subtitles are good and the sound seemed fine to me. Regardless, I’d have still bought this since I don’t own any prior release of it but it would be nice if I’d known about the quality of the transfer prior to release.
