Viewing Notes

Have been anticipating this viewing for a while after Error4444 announced this release. Very happy that Ron picked it up as I was gonna wait for a standard edition. This movie def performs better on a bigger screen with good subs and viewing with others. As noted previously, the story is fine with the usual good vs bad characters. Simon Yam’s stalker-ish behavior does a lot of heavy lifting to make it all interesting. It’s the final quarter to a third of the film where it gets wildly bananas and becomes the movie of legend. Still very tough to watch those scenes w/the child.

Regarding the PQ and overall presentation, yeah I agree with a lot of what I had read online; e4444 should be more forthcoming on what elements they’re using and their process for restoration. I believe they purposely did not mention it bc they did not want to put any sense of doubt into the marketplace to possibly hinder sales. However, had they been more transparent it could’ve gone a long way to building trust w/their audience and may only had a negligible impact on sales. Now they’ll always be in question with every release going forward unless they openly discuss their sources, elements and process.

The less than stellar PQ and other small issues don’t bother me as it’s still way better than the crummy version on YT. Just wish e4444 would’ve been upfront about it. When you have companies like 88 and Eureka putting in the work and delivering fabulous editions, the bar is set higher as are the expectations.
