Viewing Notes

I find certain types of horror movies are better enjoyed at night at home. I can’t wait to revisit this in the Secret Cinema because this is definitely one of those movies. This would have been fun to see at a film festival too, like Telluride Horror Show.

There were about 8-10 people in total in my screening, which isn’t too bad.

This is a really interesting movie in that it doesn’t really reinvent the wheel, or even come up with anything new plotwise, from the traditional slasher. What makes it stand out is the fact that it flips the perspective to the killer, choosing to follow him around rather than the victims, while still managing to inject some depth into the rest of the characters. The lack of a score heightens the reality and tension of it all too. It’s just amazingly well done.

There’s a great mix of off- and on-screen carnage even if the budget was strained in places. I suppose that’s my only negative but I’m not gonna hold that against the film. It manages to do some great stuff with its obviously meager budget which is an incredible feat.
