Twenty-eight years since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one member departs on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

Eschews the larger story to focus on family and relational drama set amidst the continuing quarantine and infection from the previous films. As expected, this has more in common with the first film than the second, employing a more humanistic approach. Has more wry humor than I was expecting, which was great.
Definitely need to watch it again to absorb more details. That ending was… something?
This was shot on an iPhone, which shouldn’t be surprising considering the first film was shot digitally (and on 16mm if I recall correctly) giving it a more synthetic, artificial feel at times. However, the technology has improved so much that it’s also of much higher quality than the first film in that regard.
