Viewing Notes

Outstanding! I was pretty ambivalent going into this, mainly because I wasn’t sure the actors were going to be good matches for these characters, but I was pleasantly surprised. The writing really helped. They managed to avoid the pitfall of over-emphasizing the individual personalities to the point they become one-note characters. Instead they emphasize the family dynamic and manage to give the characters some nuances and depth that the previous movies were never able to pull off.

Setting everything on an alternate earth and in a kind of modified early 1960s works really well, allowing them to couch the story and the characters in an environment more amenable to them and more reminiscent of the original comics.

I loved the brief appearance of Mole Man, one of my favorite villains from the comics (as drawn by Kirby at least), even though I wasn’t a big reader of the Fantastic Four books.
