Overview

Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger’s charm and audacity endear him to much of America’s downtrodden public, but he’s also a thorn in the side of J. Edgar Hoover and the fledgling FBI. Desperate to capture the elusive outlaw, Hoover makes Dillinger his first Public Enemy Number One and assigns his top agent, Melvin Purvis, the task of bringing him in dead or alive.

Viewing Notes

I thought Public Enemies was so-so the first time I saw it in the theater, but wanted to revisit. Happy to say I found it much more powerful upon second viewing.

Much of the film is set in the Midwest and some of the scenes were filmed in Aurora a block away from where I work. It was interesting seeing street scenes that I know well because I walk or drive them on a weekly basis.
