Overview

A philistine in the art film business, Jeremy Prokosch is a producer unhappy with the work of his director. Prokosch has hired Fritz Lang to direct an adaptation of “The Odyssey,” but when it seems that the legendary filmmaker is making a picture destined to bomb at the box office, he brings in a screenwriter to energize the script. The professional intersects with the personal when a rift develops between the writer and his wife.

Viewing Notes

What I love the most about Godard’s films are how well they are shot. This is no exception. In addition, I love his color palette (at least from the color films of his that I have seen). The parallel story unfolding as Fritz Lang is making his movie here is fine. The star for me, however, is not Bardot, who looks incredible, but rather Palance. He’s proves he’s also great a playing an asshole. He’s a delight.
