Overview

Young Dee Renjie arrives in the empire’s capital to join the Supreme Court as police judge of his region. He wants to become a prosecutor. Empress Wu, who is at the beginning of her reign, has commissioned the fierce detective Yuchi to investigate a sea monster that stalks the city at night and makes it unsafe.

Couldn’t miss another Detective Dee at the cinema and this one is screening at only one theater in all of Chicago. Much like Young Sherlock Tsui Hark’s Young Detective gets involved in a not-so-subtle mystery that involves an enormous sea monster. Super ridiculous but such a beautiful looking movie with excellent action sequences. Sure much of this is CG + wires but damn if it isn’t staged well. I also like the double buddy cop team-up. Definitely worth checking out if you dig Hark and his wuxia fantasy features.
