Been looking forward to this one. Strong candidate for my top 10 this year. Pattinson is very good but Guy Pearce is the captain of this ship. He really excels in roles like this. It’s as though Michod / Edgerton wrote the screenplay with Pearce in mind (apparently that’s what Michod has been saying on the press tour).
I was probably halfway into the movie when I realized it was set in the future. A lot of it seems like it could take place in present day in the desolate outback. It’s almost like a prequel to Mad Max or The Road. In fact, I’d recommend viewing after The Proposition then following with The Road for a Michod sandwich with two slices of Hillcoat.
When this gets released to home video I’m going to do that triple. Will be a good excuse to revisit all three.

The more I think about this movie, the more enthralled I am with it. I suspect I’ll still be thinking about it over the next few days. I have a hard time thinking this won’t be in my top ten for the year.
