Viewing Notes

Honestly had no interest in viewing this (skipped the premiere event and muted all the hashtags). But I noticed it was about to start when I was setting my DVR for Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda (yeah, I know) so what the hell. Admittedly my interest was slightly piqued after I contributed comments to an article regarding Subway’s live tweeting participation during the premiere.

Now I know why (and wish I had known this for the article); Subway is one of the in-movie brand sponsors. Duh! Of course they’d participate to amplify the product placement and logo seen throughout the movie. Acknowledging that could have further supported my comments. Ah well.

Okay, real talk: this movie ain’t so bad! Definitely a big leap from the first film which I did not like. So I guess it’s not saying much that is a better flick. But it is. Its self-awareness and quality in-jokes (that I’m guessing half the viewing audience wouldn’t even get) are pretty good.

And no one bothered to tell me that Kari Wuhrer is one of the stars! Shit I’ll watch anything she’s in these days, which sadly isn’t much. She’s a mother of two big kids! Shit, we’re old. If the VFX were good this would be an even better film. It just looks so bad. However, I really like all the on location shots around NYC and the interactions between characters.

Could have been a lot worse. Guess we can expect a Sharknado 3 next year.
