Sure, this might be The Conjuring-lite but it works better for me because it’s old school, straightforward evil doll story with satanic cults and priests and children behaving badly. It’s simple. Plus that doll freaks me the fuck out. Hell, just sitting on the shelf is enough to bring the creeps. Agreed that this origin story is bit of a stretch to reach that craziness of The Conjuring but contained to its own standalone flick, Annabelle is fine. Admittedly I’m an easy mark for spooky dolls but I’d rather have more movies like this than another “The Possession of…” or “The Haunting of…” etc etc throw up.
