There is no place more hallowed in the martial art world than China’s Shaolin Temple. This special place deserves a special epic, which is what the martial arts maestro delivers in this battle between a brave brand of Chinese boxers and literally thousands of Qing troops - complete with betrayals, intrigues, and such novel fighting machines as 108 wooden robots. The conflicts grow in complexity, intensity and even suspense as monks struggle to stay alive in the face of overwhelming odds.

Thanks to El Rey Network I can watch a much better print on TV than that crappy one on YouTube I started a while back. Hate the commercial breaks but at least it looks great. Man, what an all-star cast!! Holy shit.
This is another Fu Sheng vehicle but it’s weird to see Ti Lung and David Chiang as side characters (but get some decent screen time; Ti Lung’s stair fight is phenomenal). Great that 4 Venoms are featured: Chiang Sheng and Phillip Kwok have decent roles here as well as Lu Feng as the badass general. His fight with Kwok is another incredible sequence. Wai Pak is listed as an extra. I guess this is officially the first Venom Mob movie. Pretty cool.
This movie would pair well with DISCIPLES OF SHAOLIN since both feature Fu Sheng and Chi Kuan-Chun in the main roles. In fact this would almost be a prequel to that movie. Sad day for the Shaolin Temple.
The final battle is insane with so much going on. Terrific setpiece in the tunnels leading up to that. Definitely one I wish to own for the cast, direction and action.
