Viewing Notes

Today Shout! Factory TV ran their Kaiju Movie Marathon event for 24 hours starting at midnight last night. It was hosted by August Ragone who intro’d each movie with some cool facts. Ultra Q and Ultra 7 episodes were also injected between the Godzilla movies. I caught a little of those as well as little of King of Monsters and Mothra vs Godzilla.

Came home after the Japan Day event to watch Monster Zero then this movie after it. Normally I wouldn’t bother watching these since I have access to them already via DVD and this one in particular is not a great movie however I enjoyed August’s intro in describing this as the best children’s movie that also happens to feature Godzilla and his foes. And that it’s still better than that “garbage fire” of Godzilla 1999. He’s right; I watched this movie way more than the other Godzilla movies during my childhood and I loved it.

So I watched this again as it lulled me into a nap by the final sequence with the criminals getting caught. This is when Godzilla turned from being malevolent and truly a hero for children. This may have been my first introduction to Godzilla for all I know. I know that this would be the first G movie I’d show my kids.
