Viewing Notes
Not nearly as bad as made out to be (seems like I’ve said that a lot recently). Still not a great film mostly held back from by sleepy eyed Sandler’s uninspired performance and Kevin James as the president. The rest of the cast around them is pretty good. Just a weird film tonally and in content, i.e. who is this movie for exactly? Man-children like Sandler and his friends? Could’ve been less misogynistic.
Story is okay but had there been a more charismatic hero this could’ve been a better film. Sandler looks like he just woke up in every scene. Put Dwayne Johnson in this movie and it’s better. Still not great but better. Spin the story differently with Johnson abandoning his child nerd ways but getting called back and asked to embraced his nerd past to save the world. Already better. I’m tired of Sam Jackson but put him in as president a la BIG GAME and the movie works.
Clearly I’ve already put more thought into this than it deserves.
