This was a great start to Day 3 at Noir City. Hadn’t seen this one and it features two searing performances, Lupino and Bogart. Not surprising. Eddie said during the intro “I’ve stood up here and said this before but it’s worth saying again: Ida Lupino is the greatest woman filmmaker of the twentieth century.” Based on what I’ve seen of her and by her, I tend to agree. She’s the anchor in this movie and gives the emotional edge to Bogart’s always cool demeanor.
I’m a bit surprised I hadn’t seen this one given the talent but what a way to see it for the first time.
