Overview

King T’Challa returns home to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne by factions within his own country as well as without. Using powers reserved to Wakandan kings, T’Challa assumes the Black Panther mantle to join with ex-girlfriend Nakia, the queen-mother, his princess-kid sister, members of the Dora Milaje (the Wakandan ‘special forces’) and an American secret agent, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Viewing Notes

Yaaaaassss. Ain’t perfect but it’s so beautiful, layered and vibrant. I was emotional within the first 10-15 minutes. I love that the movie takes it time to build towards the final chapter. I was so tired but had no problem staying awake bc I was invested in these characters. I went Thursday night bc I wanted to avoid the weekend crowds but now I may go down to Melrose Park this weekend since that will be a primarily black audience and it would be a blast.

I used two Stubs rewards bc I bought advanced ticket via the AMC site. Cost only $1.26 for the ticket. The mobile app was super wonky and didn’t show my rewards. Bought the ticket and was charged the full price. Had to request a refund. Tried to repurpose but still no rewards ($10 worth). Went to desktop still no rewards. Selected different time then my rewards showed up. Tried my desired showtime again no reward. Tried different day, reward appeared. Shut it all down and restarted and my desired time finally gave my reward against the cost. So frustrating. Cinema chains wonder why they’re losing to streaming and home experience. This is yet another reason.
