Viewing Notes

Was inspired to revisit after viewing Monkey King 2 last night. Such an interesting film to watch today, nevermind the terrific Ray Harryhausen work, just the weird gender politics and nature of the film. Very white movie too.

90 minutes until the showstopper scene but that hydra fight into the skeleton battle is still one of the greatest of all time. So it bumps an average film up a few notches. Most of what comes before it is a bit of a chore with kind of a dipshit dummy in Jason.

Also wild that they tease a sequel and more adventures that never happened. I believe I knew why but have since forgotten. The Legacy extra that features a bunch of filmmakers talking about Harryhausen mostly focuses on 7th Voyage which is strange given it’s on the Jason disc.
