Wasn’t sure I was gonna watch this movie via DKU-TV but once I saw it stars Tatsuya Nakadai (SWORD OF DOOM, HARI-KARI, etc) I was glued in. Unfortunately this movie needed a better screenplay and editor. Its 2:13 runtime is felt especially in the final third. Has a good start to set the table but slowly goes downward from there (basically from when Nakadai’s Minami visits NYC looking for a missing person).
There are a lot of great themes in here, which is basically like a spin on Invasion of the Body Snatchers but people have blue blood from alien/UFO exposure. Government does government bullshit which leads to other conspiracies about what may be really happening. They cram a lot into this movie without paying much of it off other than the expected ending.
Would’ve been more effective to tighten this whole thing up to around 1:45 runtime or at least explore some of the themes more, both ethical and moral implications of this phenomenon.
This has a huge cast and it’s weird they bring in cameos like Hideyo Amamoto’s character for 2 scenes and only a few minutes of screen time. That is an interesting character too but just disappears in the story.
