Despite the fact that Milena is already married, their friendship quickly turns into a deeply passionate love affair that threatens to overtake them both. When Milena ends up in the hospital from an overdose, Alex is taken into custody by Inspector Netusil.

Nicolas Roeg died today so I’m watching one of his films I haven’t seen. Helluva film. Surprised Criterion hasn’t done this in Blu yet (perhaps they will w/Roeg’s passing). Crazy that Russell was 22 when she made this. Incredible. I was a total dingbat at 22. She was in Vienna making history with her performance. 3 years later she would marry the 54 year old Nic Roeg. More craziness.
The interview with Russell on the Criterion disc is good. She’s so very no nonsense in her outlook and approach. She’s done some great stuff in her career but it’s ridiculous that she wasn’t more recognized and offered bigger projects. She doesn’t talk about this but just my thoughts.
